BOOK OF AMOS

 

Dear beloved in Christ. This article follows the development of the selected topic from the book of Amos. 

Though the bible talks about 16 written prophets; these are like - Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and Daniel. Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, Zechariah, and Malachi. but historically Amos is the first written prophet in the Bible. Among these prophets, Johnna didn't preach to Isreal, rather he preaches to Nineveh (present-day it's called Iraq), rests fifteen prophets preached to Isreal. There are other prophets are found in Bible, who came before Amos – the most famous prophets are Elisa & Elisaya, but they never wrote any written prophetical books.

Amos was from Tekoa, which was situated to the southern kingdom ("The words of Amos, one of the shepherds of Tekoa" Amos 1:1a). His occupation was farming, and  Shepherd work, he wasn't from a prophetical background ("Amos answered Amaziah, “I was neither a prophet nor the son of a prophet, but I was a shepherd, and I also took care of sycamore-fig trees. 15 But the Lord took me from tending the flock and said to me, ‘Go, prophesy to my people Israel" Amos 7:14). Though He was not a professional prophet; but God chose Amos for an urgent mission to the northern kingdom. After King Solomon's death in around 930 B.C., the kingdom split into a northern kingdom, which retained the name Israel, and a southern kingdom called Judah. 

The question is why God chose Amos, rather than other qualified people? Because God may find a faithful heart in Amos. So, he chose an ordinary person to teach extraordinary people. We need to be faithful and God-fearing men and women. Our knowledge starts from fearing of the Lord (“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” Proverbs 9:10). If we are not fearing God that means we are the foolish person in front of God. What about Jesus? He was faithful was 30 years. Finally, God Chose him and anoint him and used him for his glory (how god anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the holy spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil because god was with him. (Acts 10:38). What about the disciples of Jesus? do you think they qualified for ministry? But God has chosen them and used them for His glory. Our way and God’s way are different (God does not see the same way people see. People look at the outside of a person, but the LORD looks at the heart.” 1 Samuel 16:7). Something we may think we are nothing , No need to be a worry. If you are God fearing person, humble person, Justice person – Surely God will choose you and use you for His glory. The difference between other prophet and Amos. Amos heart is big – He says God of all nation. It should be heart of a Servent of God. They should not think: Our denomination, family, and qualification are big, only I am a God-fearing person. But Amos not like that. Some times they thought they are gentile or from babylone. Before God All are same. But Babylon/gentiles are in our hearts. Though you are pastor or great leader, you are in babylone. 

 

Northen Kimdom:

Amos from Southern and god sent to northen Kingdom. Johbam was the king. Many rich people are there. (3:13, 6:4, 4:1) – Houses, Rich, Laxuary furniture, Food and drinking. But what is the problem. They exploiting poor people, and enjoying their life (2:5). They sold poor people, get power, buseness minded, they doesent has brotherhood heart.

(4:4-5) Different Religion. When God choosed the Isreal with great resposibulity.  God want bless all the Nation. God given them a leadership position to them. But Isreal forgot there God. They worship other God too, they merry other people.

5:21, 23, Different Hymn & praise, it is painful when God lestin it. I am not Going to lestin their music. I whould I listen your worship. This is telling God of Nation. We not maintaining the nature of Brotherhood life.

God Judgement came to other nations too – 6 Nation. Naibur nation. Many times we thinks about others, what about you. Remember God judgement for all. Don’t take advantage God’s Goodness.

2:12, Leaders corrupted God’s chosen people. Elders are giving them drink. The decided in their mind they will serve God. But because of Leader’s behaviors/ caractors/ wrong leadership they Discoraged and corrapted. Only leader is not enougf, but good carctors leader must be improtrant. Many young people, they singh well, preach well, teach well, - but they mis-leaded. My sussestion to young people, follow the Jesus. Jesus is the Good Sheppar and good Leader.

Amos 3:3, How can we walk together. Because you are not agree with me. That’s God’s want to leave them.

Before God doing something: God doesthree thing :AMOS 3:7-12

1.       Without warning god doesn’t do anything (1-2) – Mistakes of Isreal.

3:8 – Lion is roaring in front of you, but you are not fearing. (Through Amos/ Pastor/ Pastor) – We are thinking Just nothing.

3:10 – They do not know how to do right.

4:6 – You are like fatty cow.

(Put Hooks, sikness, Pain, Huger, lonlyness, destroy, famin, - But you still you never reyurn to me (4:6) / prepare to meet your God. , You destroy to my holiness) I will judge you with hard way, than you understand – than you understand with is God.)

They naglacted God’s word, after forty years ASurian came occopaied isreal.

 

But God Reminer His Isreal, God is consume fire.

5:5 -  Bethel / Berseba/ Gilgal  - Many times we leave in our past.

Isreal are thought we all God’s own people. – Bethel/ Berseba where Jacob meet God/ Gilgol – where Josua sercancize the people afer crossing the Jordan. Do not leave in your past. But what is today? Isreal people are leaving in their past – and they proud.

 I meet with Jacob past, what is the condition. Brand is not enougf.

CH- 6:6 / they not fear Joshep, or Isreal. –

 Selfish life.

Amos – 7: God is sending fare,  vs 5 – Amos stand between God and Isreal, That is the nature of God’s servent. How great heart that they have.

7:8 God Going test them “Plump Line”  - Wright or Wrong

7:5: Amos humbleness. Because you refuse God word – Your son and daughter killed with shord / die in other land / your wife will do adultery in city.

 

8:11-12 – “Behold, the days are coming,” says the Lord GOD, “That I will send a famine on the land, Not a famine of bread, Nor a thirst for water, But of hearing the words of the LORD.

You will not going to lestin the Profitical word // God is silent // Soul was crying for prophetical word // and He call Samuel.

 

 

Amos 9:11 In-Context

11 “In that day I will restore David's fallen shelter— I will repair its broken walls and restore its ruins— and will rebuild it as it used to be, 12 so that they may possess the remnant of Edom and all the nations that bear my name, ” declares the LORD, who will do these things.
