Matthew: A Brief Introduction

The Gospel of Matthew one of the favorite books among Christian Readers in antiquity. There were two reasons for this “favoritism.” First it that Church father s thought that the Gospel of Matthew was composed first and second has to do with Jesus presented as a teacher in the Gospel of Matthew.

Mark and Matthew

Gospel of Mark:

The beginning of the good news about Jesus the Messiah. The son of God. As it is written in Isaiah the prophet:

·        “I will send my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare way “,

·        “A voice of one calling in the wilderness” prepare the way for the Lord, make straight path for him”

Gospel of Matthew:

·        This is the genealogy of Jesus the Messiah the son of  David, the son of Abraham:

·        Abraham was the father of Isaac,

·        Isaac the father of Jacob,

·        Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers,

·        Judah the father of Perez and Zerah, whose mother was Tamar,

·        Perez the father of Hezron,

·        Hezron the father ram,

·        Ram the father of Amminadob.

Jesus as David’s Lord

·        Jesus is also God’s son which means that Jesus is also more than David’s son: He is David’s Lord.

·        Psalm 110:1

·        The Lord says to my lord: “ Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.”

Matthew 22:41-46

While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them, What do you think about the messiah? Whose son is he?. The son of David, they replied. He said to them, How is it then that David speaking by the spirit calls him Lord”? For he says, “The Lord said to my Lord” Sit at my right hand until I put you enemies under your feet. If then David calls him Lord how can he be his son? No one could say a word in reply, and from that day on no one dared to ask him any more questions.
